    January 24, 2011 by shannon

    Hey guys

Im starting work on a 30 day devotional for skaters and surfers in two weeks time, and I just wanted to get some input from you just to see what key aspects of your walk with God you think should be seen by new believers.  So please think about it and get back to me by the end of the week

    Thanks

  2. Christ Church Midrand / Christ Church School

January 21, 2011 by Chris van der Merwe

We started the skate club at our Church over a year and a half ago and now we are looking for a dedicated person to run and administer the club as well as disciple those who are Christian and to evangelize outside community skaters.

We presently run a Gap year program for year 13’s seeking to equip them to stand for Christ when they go off to tertiary education. So there might be a possibility of finding a Christian Skater who is thinking of ministry opportunities and giving them a year to try it out with backing and support.

    Our Club:

Has a 3ft half pipe; manual- pad, box, launch ramp and about six rails.

The school club has about 40 members & we have about 30 community guys who use the ramp on the weekends.

On site we have a skate shop which stocks Slip Skate gear. Decks, tape, wheels, bearings, trucks, & T’s

  3. UK: Malmesbury Skate Festival

January 17, 2011 by Chris van der Merwe
    Malmesbury Skate Festival : Wednesday 23rd – Friday 25th February 2011
With less than 6 weeks to go before the 3rd annual Malmesbury Skate Festival (near Swindon), we are keen to focus on making sure that we have a great team to support this initiative. The event is an amazing opportunity that opens up Malmesbury Abbey to the public, and welcomes skaters, scooters, and rollerbladers from around the area, to skate on a temporary skate park inside an 850 year old Abbey. In addition to the skate park there will also be a café running over the whole three days, and in the past there has been some beatbox and street dance activities that we are hoping to include this year also.

To help with this fantastic partnership between Christian Surfers UK, Christian Skaters, and Malmesbury Abbey, we are ideally looking for a team of around 10 people with a key requirement being a willingness to serve. The team is there to not only link to those who can skate well, but also to help and encourage the beginner groups, and to build a good rapport with the public as they come to the event. A typical day is a long but good fun one, and will start early in the morning with a team meeting with prayer before the first session, and will last right the way through till about 9.30pm at night. Each sessions will focus on a particular age group, ie Under 12’s, Beginners, open session, or activity ie Skate or scooter.

During this event we have always been incredibly well looked after by the Malmesbury Abbey team, and this year is no different, as they will provide accommodation and meals over the three days for those helping out. The commitment we are asking from you therefore is simply for your time and your efforts. If you have been involved before, or if you would like to get involved for the first time, then please get in contact with myself, Phil Williams as soon as possible, either by phone 07774138143 or email[email protected].

This is an amazing opportunity to share our faith in a relevant way in this great market town community, and we are really looking forward to continuing this partnership into its third year.

  5. Skateboarding For Hope In South Africa

January 11, 2011 by Chris van der Merwe

In anticipation of expanding their skateboard contest series internationally, and building up to their first event to be held outside the United States, the Maloof brothers, founders of the Maloof Money Cup, have kicked off the “Skateboarding for Hope Tour” in South Africa.

The 10-month tour across the country seeks to promote skateboarding as a healthy and positive alternative to kids whose lives may drift toward criminal activity. It kicked off in early December with an event that included a skateboarding demonstration, instructional clinics for local youth and a giveaway of skate product. It continued with stops in 17 South African cities, and the second leg of the tour begins in February in Cape Town.

The tour will culminate in Kimberley, South Africa with the Maloof Money Cup World Skateboarding Championshipsbeing held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Skateboarding and owner of the Sacramento Kings basketball team and Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, says he’s already seen positive impacts of skating in South Africa first-hand. “I think the Maloof Skateboarding Global Initiative has already been a tremendous success. We’re already starting to make a difference in South Africa with our clinics and gear donations, but also on a personal level with the youth there.

There’s this great kid — a 6-year-old boy — he’s amazing on a skateboard. All of the people in his village have started calling him “Maloof.” He’s been homeless and we’re making sure we take care of him, making sure he gets an education and we’re supporting his skateboarding so he has opportunities in life that he wouldn’t otherwise have.”
