We will once again be touching base with local churches, hosting a movie night, of which we are honoured and privileged to show the pre-release of BEYOND SIGHT, the Derek Rabelo Story, as part of our Roadshow, …..surf comps, skate comps and poker runs. Below is detailed info on each town.
SAN DIEGO — Aug. 30, 2012 — When the odds are stacked against you, you can give up, or you can face the obstacle head on, determined to succeed. One young surfer is making waves in the surf community for doing just that.
Derek Rabelo’s father prayed that his unborn son would become a professional surfer. He even named the boy after legendary surfer Derek Ho. However, the father’s aspirations for his son were shattered, as Rabelo was born blind on May 25, 1992. But this physical hindrance wouldn’t stop the Brazilian boy from pushing past his disability to make his dreams come true. At 17 years old, Rabelo embarked on a journey of rigorous training that stretched him mentally, physically and spiritually. Rabelo’s mentor and friend Magno Passos is one of the best bodyboarders in the world and believed in Derek when nobody else did.
Proving that nothing is impossible, the 20-year-old surfed Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii — a challenging surf destination for even the most skilled surfers.
Rabelo is an inspiration to all whom he encounters — including some of the best surfers in the world like Rob Machado, Gerry Lopez, Tom Curren, Damien Hobgood, Derek Ho, Lakey Peterson and Coco Ho — who star in Beyond Sight.
“Look at Derek. He lives 100 percent by faith and zero by sight, and look what God’s doing in his life,” Peterson said. “He has inspired me to really live by faith and not by sight.”

Bethany Hamilton, a 13-year-old girl destined for a successful surfing career, lost her arm to a shark in 2003. The attack didn’t cause this determined surfer to give up.
Instead, it compelled her to discover her purpose in life as she overcame her loss and got back on the board just weeks later.
‘Heart of a Soul Surfer’ digs deep into the heart of Bethany’s abiding faith in God, and tackles the difficult question ‘Why does God allow bad things to happen in our
lives?’
Bethany’s story has been told by many different people around the world, but this is the first time she and her family have been able to share it from their heart and perspective.
