  2. Jesus Retro Roadshow

    August 5, 2011 by Steph

For the first time Christian Surfers ran a Road Show to spread the gospel and reach out to local communities.  Take a look to see all the great ways that God used us for his kingdom!

    Kroonstad

Chris and Lizelle from Kroonstad are passionate about God and are doing an awesome job connecting with the kids in the area.

    Edenvale

Chris and Mike are overseeing a new weekly Bible Study meeting which has started up at Eastside Church in Edenvale.  Mike was instrumental in the beginning growth of Christian Skaters South Africa so it’s great to see God still using him to start new things.

    Pretoria

MOOT in Pretoria is a community run project by the churches in the area and we worked with them to run a skateboard and rollerblading competition.

Prayer point: Please continue to prayer for these guys as they look at ways in which too use extreme sports as a tool to bridge the gap between the church and the skatepark.

    Hartebeespoort Dam

At Hartebeespoort we served and shared at the annual skateboarding event, ‘My Culture Resurrection Jam’ which hosted over 200 skaters and riders.  Check out the highlights video here (By Heinrich Thiart).

    Mossel Bay

We went to Mossel Bay mainly to run the Mossel Bay Jesus Retro Surf Contest (1 of two planned Jesus Retro Surf Contests for the Road Show) but we arrived to find massive which were way too big to run a contest in.  We decided to call off the contest trusting that God had a different plan for our time in Mossel Bay.  We still went ahead with a skate contest and movie night (showing Walking on Water) which was way more fruitful than we thought it would be.  There were so many kids there and they were eager to compete, engage and ask questions.  Besides that event we built good relationships with a local church there, some of the surfers and the surf shop owner.

    Jeffreys Bay

We then headed back to Jeffreys bay to run the Jesus Triple Tier skate contest which was a huge success.  A lot of the local kids came to take part and it was great to have Todd Darvas who was visiting from Australia to help judge and give a short message at the prizegiving.

    East London

The next stop, East London, saw the first ever East London Jesus Retro Surf Contest where about 40 contestants got given (based on a role of the dice) classic 70s style surf boards to surf on for this one day event.  A good time was had by all and a huge thanks to Nick Pike, the visionary behind the contest and who made sure everything ran smoothly.  We had an awesome closing function at the Glen Eden church where we could show an episode of On The Rocks and hear a great message from Dimitri.

    Mdumbi, Transkei

The last stop took us to the remote village of Mdumbi in the Transkei.  We connected with the local mission there who run a backpackers and are doing great things with the community.  It was also a bit of down time for us as a staff and we were just so blessed to enjoy some fellowship and rest.

Prayer point: Please pray that God will water the seeds planted on this Road Show as only he can!

    Next year

We are already starting to plan next year’s Road Show and are hoping to make it a national event.  Please watch out for details and we would love to see you there!
